Who are we?

Jesture is a home of theatre makers, movement and embodiment training for artists (and the artistically minded) to recharge their spirit, body, and imagination.

Andrew is a practicing clown and movement coach, who for more than three decades has taught the next generation of artists – building their presence on stage, and in life.

After decades of practice, there was one common trait which he noticed consistently separated the compelling artist from the rest.

It was their abundant sense of play, generosity and embodiment.
Noticing a distinct lack of training that acknowledges the connection between these elements, he knew something had to change.

After several years training actors at leading tertiary institutions, and inspired by the philosophy and practice of the clown, it was time to create something new.

Jesture was born out of the necessity to reintroduce artistry into the lives of all people.

Clowning serves as the philosophical basis of Andrew’s practice.

Clowning is an essential craft, which in his decades of experience, has consistently delivered humanity, joy, and connection. It is the foundation of all our training – essential for the dramatic actor, comedian, and artist.

Along with offering a dedicated suite of movement training courses, the company was built on the standard of innovation, and pragmatism.

Over the last 30 years, Andrew has worked professionally throughout Australia and Singapore as an actor, movement director, and arts administrator. Since 2018 he has been the movement and clown coach for actors at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU) as part of their tertiary programs. Andrew has tutored for other programs such as NIDA Young Actors Studio, Queensland University of Technology, and Dynamite Studios on the Gold Coast.

Andrew has a proven record of successful leadership and is highly regarded as a forward thinking industry mind. Before serving as the movement and clown coach at QCGU, he was Artistic Director of Backbone Youth Arts for 4 years, during this time Andrew successfully directed the annual ‘2High Youth Arts Festival’ – now the ‘Backbone Festival.’
